According to an article published on the John Hopkins website, 45% of adults snore from time to time. I certainly do. I snore so much that I often find my wife sleeping on the couch in the morning.

Snoring is annoying for your partner, so much so that 1 in six people living with a snorer are considering a divorce. Snoring is annoying for your partner, but it can also lead to severe health consequences such as an increased rate of heart attacks or strokes. It is fair to say that we snorers are unaware of our snoring.

We certainly do minimize our snoring levels and do not believe that we snore much. After all, we snore when we sleep, and we are usually not aware of it. A great way to finally be aware of your snoring is to rely on your Fitbit smartwatch.

This article will get into the details of a fascinating report: the Fitbit Snore & Noise Report that comes with the sleep analysis report. But, first, let me tell you that I was genuinely shocked when I realized that my snoring noises had reached the levels of a power drill. Yes, you read it well: when sleeping, my snoring reached 90 dBA, which is the equivalent of a demolition hammer…This insight shocked me, and I decided to take action.

Do you also want to know if your snoring has nothing to envy to a Boeing 747? Then, let’s get into this and make the most of the Fitbits Snore Report.

Which Fitbit Has Snore Detection?

Snore detection involves noise detection. It means that only Fitbit devices, including a microphone, will have the ability to listen to the ambient noise while you sleep and detect noise variations corresponding to snoring.

So far, only the Fitbit Versa 3 and the Fitbit Sense come with snore detection abilities. The results will be part of the daily sleep report. Snoring detection and reports are somehow only available to Fitbit Premium users. It means that following the initial free Fitbit Premium Subscription period, three to six months, depending on the device that comes when buying a new Fitbit device, you will need to pay to continue assessing what is considered an advanced feature.

How to Set up Snore Detection?

Monitoring the ambient noise continuously while you sleep will impact the battery life of your device. Even though we did not detect a massive impact on the battery, you may want to deactivate this sleep tracking feature and preserve your battery. Fitbit battery life is somehow in the high-end range compared to other smartwatches – Apple Watch, we are looking at you – so the impact of snoring detection should not be so dramatic on the battery.

Anyway, snore detection can be easily turned on or off. Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Access the Fitbit App on your smartphone and tap on the Today icon
  2. Get into the Sleep quality report
  3. Tap on the gear icon at the top right corner of the screen
  4. Toggle the Detect Snoring button to turn on or off

What Can You Learn from The Snoring Report?

While you sleep, your Fitbit Versa 3 or Fitbit Sense will listen continuously to the ambient sound and define a baseline noise level. Snoring will be picked up when the sound intensity is above the background noise level.

Two critical pieces of information are presented in the Snore report:

The percentage of snoring episodes during sleep. Be prepared to be shocked. I was so surprised when I realized that I snore more than 50% of the time

The snore sound intensity. This graph is informative as the noise levels are presented throughout the total time spent sleeping. Easy to read, the graph shows the noise intensity in dBA and the individual episodes and levels.

The results are both informative and a little bit scary sometimes. Do you want to know if your partner can cope with sleeping next to a vacuum cleaner? This is the graph to look at.

The results have been eye-opening for us. We hope that they will also be for you. After getting a grip on your potential snoring levels, it may be time to take appropriate action that will ultimately benefit your health and even your relationship.

To Wrap Up

The Fitbit Snore Report is an excellent way for Fitbit wearers to understand how they sleep. It is critical to understand that Fitbit will not detect sleep apnea per se, but heavy snorers are more prone to such episodes that can impact their health.

Snoring detection using a Fitbit is for information only, and the value of the results has not been FDA approved. However, most Health smartwatches or fitness trackers are here to help you realize the potential behavioral changes that will benefit your health.

Snoring and sleep apnea may be part of the problem if you do not feel rested despite sleeping the recommended hours. Share your Fitbit Snoring Report with your doctor or other medical professionals. This may be a first step in the right direction to get back to the path of restful nights.
