The Xiaomi Mi Band 7 is probably one of the best value-for-the-money fitness trackers in 2022. Compared to the Mi Band 6, this new device brings long-awaited Always On Display clock faces, a large 1.67-inch AMOLED display, the possibility to monitor blood oxygen continuously, and more than 120 activities.

Expect from NFC and a built-in GPS; the Band 7 has most of what you can expect from a premium fitness band. All of that for a very reasonable price.

One question that is often asked is whether the Mi Band 7 is waterproof or just splashproof.

That is a good question, but the answer is not so simple. According to Xiaomi, the Band 7 is rated 5ATM, meaning that it can resist up to 5 atmospheres of water pressure which corresponds to 50 meters deep approximately.

According to this rating, it should mean that you do diving or snorkeling with your Xiaomi Mi Band 7 without fearing any water getting inside the tracker and damaging its delicate electronics.

Well, not really! Let’s dive, if I may say, into the nuances of the water rating.

What Does 5 Atm Mean?

One atmosphere is a measure of pressure, corresponding to one bar, the atmospheric pressure. So 5 ATM means that the Band 7 should hold up to 5 bars or the pressure of 5 atmospheric pressure. The scale is misleading. For a watch and the Mi Band 7 may be smart, but it remains a watch, a 5 ATM rating is more a short swim or a hand wash than to dive in the ocean.

Is the Mi Band 7 Waterproof, Then?

The Mi Band 7 will undoubtedly resist a shower or a bath. Somehow I do recommend that you remove it before showering but do not expect to avoid letting soap get trapped under the band.

Regarding water sports, the Xiaomi Mi Band 7 offers specific activities such as Pool Swimming, Finswimming, Artistic Swimming, Sailing, Rowing, Dragon Boat, kayaking, snorkeling, and flow riding. Still, I do not advise you to test its water limits.

It is true that the Band 7 is self-contained and does not include a button requiring water seals, but as brilliant as it can be, it remains a device built for the average user.

Do not hesitate to wash your hands without removing it and make the most of it when pool swimming, but in any serious water sport, I advise you to leave your fitness tracker at home.

Does the Mi Band 7 Has a Water Lock Mode

Yes and No! Yes, the Mi Band 7 offers a water lock mode that prevents the screen from being activated by the water drops, but this safety feature only activates when starting a swim workout.

What does it mean? It means that if you are having a shower and have forgotten to remove it, the water droplets will most likely activate the screen. Numerous users complained about that with the previous models.

What is the solution then? As weird as it may seem, in case you really do not want to remove your Band 7 while bathing or showering, you will need to lock the screen by activating a fake swim workout.
