What is the mission of ‘Generations’ in the Lausanne Movement?
The Generations Department exists to invest in younger leaders (YLGen) and to connect and integrate leaders across generations by facilitating intergenerational collaboration.
What is YLGen?
YLGen is (1) an initiative of the Lausanne Movement to (2) identify a new generation of younger mission leaders (3) over a period of 10 years, in order to (4a) invest (conviction, character, calling, competence) in their development and (4b) integrate them into the Movement (regions, issues, generations) as well as the wider Great Commission community, that the world might know Christ.
What is YLG2026?
YLG2026 is a global gathering of emerging Christian leaders hosted by the Lausanne Movement. The gathering will facilitate the creation of the new cohort of Younger Leaders and mark the beginning of a 10-year journey called YLGen.
How can I become a YLGen member?
New YLGen Members (YLGeners) will join the next YLGen cohort, YLGen2, which will be formed after the gathering in 2026 (YLG2026). The selection process will begin in 2025 and will comprise nomination, application, and selection. All participants in the 4th Lausanne Congress born in 1991 and after will be automatically nominated for YLG2026.
How does ‘Generations’ invest in Younger Leaders?
The Generations department invests in younger leaders through YLGen. YLGen is a 10-year commitment to strategically partner with younger leaders and to connect them more intentionally to Lausanne issue networks, regions, missional resources, and whole-life mentors, as well as to one another through peer groups at a national or regional level. YLGen has also invested in special projects such as the Lausanne Leadership Journey, the Lausanne Emerging Theologians Initiative, and Ezra Cohort Leadership.
How do I participate in YLGen programmes?
YLGen programmes are only available to YLGeners who have been nominated, selected and invited to participate in the 10-year journey. All participants in the 4th Lausanne Congress born in 1991 and after will be automatically nominated for YLG2026.
