Latin America

Latin America is a vibrant continent, bursting with colour, music, dance, flavourful cuisine. It is home to the world’s largest rainforest which contributes 20% of the world’s oxygen. Indigenous legacies in art, fold culture and traditions are strong in Latin America. Amidst the wealth of its natural resources, this beautifully diverse continent faces the challenges of environmental changes, inequality, poverty, violence, conflict and uncertainty. In all this, God’s church remains alive and well.

The religious majority in Latin America is Christian (90%). Of the 90%, around 70% are Roman Catholic, and about 20% are Protestant. In particular, the pentecostal church is especially vibrant and continues to grow at a rapid rate. Churches in this region are willing and eager to participate in global mission. The Lausanne Movement continues to help bring Latin American leaders together out of a shared longing and commitment to see the good news for every person, an evangelistic church for every people, Christ-like leaders for every church, and kingdom impact in every sphere of society.

Welcome from Our Regional Directors

Pray for our work in Latin America

  1. Strength and Maturity – Pray for the strengthening and maturing of the evangelical church and our witness both in Latin America and beyond its borders.
  2. Ongoing Peace – Pray for ongoing peace amidst the unrest, violence, and displacement which is experienced in many Latin American countries.
  3. Spiritual Wisdom and Understanding – Pray that God would fill us with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that we may live worthily of the Lord and please him in all respects–bearing fruit in every good deed, and growing in the knowledge of God. (Colossians 1:9-10)
